Hello Cibola Community!
We find ourselves nearly to the close of first semester. As a new principal, I have had the pleasure of observing, learning, supporting, and celebrating the numerous accomplishments of the remarkable and dedicated staff at Cibola High School. What a journey it has been and all along the way. I’ve witnessed pride that is immeasurable…off the charts, really. It spreads along the halls, walls, in excited voices and staff working long hours, willingly, to maintain the tradition of excellence.
Administrators have had the first-hand pleasure of being in classrooms a whopping 40% of the school day hours this semester. That works out mathematically to 34 school days, to 220 hours, in which each administrator is directly engaged in classroom observation, and provision of high quality feedback.
I am thrilled to share that over 90% of all teachers either met or exceeded the rigors of the classroom evaluation observation system to demonstrate through observed evidence that they are engaging students, pushing them to critically think, providing a high quality, respectful environment in which to learn, and are formatively assessing students to consistently check for understanding and adapt instruction when kids don’t understand. Principals are visible consistently throughout the school, in hallways, classrooms and at school events to actively and meaningfully support learning.
We have opened our doors to accessibility of learning from offering ECademy after school courses to adding Cibola as a host site for summer school, 2015. We are striving to meet the 21st century demands on our students, to enter into online standardized testing, and to help kids to talk about, write about, and speak about what they know, cite evidence to support their answers and to read informational text in an informed and knowledgeable way everyday. Our students are growing more and more academically confident. That is our number one goal.
I am pleased that you have trusted your son or daughter’s education to our team of experts. I can assure you that you son or daughter is in good hands…we have entered higher stakes education to prepare your sons and daughters for a high stakes life, and our teachers and support staff are honoring this commitment. Trust that we have your students’ best interests at heart and we will continue to push and thrive forward.
Have a wonderful holiday. Enjoy winter and all the briskness, warmness and comfort time with family and friends holds.
It is my pleasure to serve you as your school principal.
