Hello Cougars…April/May Principal Corner
Well, the winds have blown March right past us and we find ourselves smack dab in April. This weekend it’s already prom.! I can’t wait to see that Cougar finery! It is definitely time for a principal Cougar update! Hey Everyone! It’s class of 2015 senior event, event, event time!
Keep an eye on the website for important dates and events. You may have noticed that the new high school bell schedule for next year is posted. Keep an eye out for all those senior, senior, senior events from information about the senior trip, to senior honors ceremony and graduation information. During the honors ceremony, we will be celebrating the many and multiple accomplishments of our class of 2015! One such, pause for the cause moments….drum roll…did you know that we have 51 seniors who have earned a cumulative 4.0+ GPA over four years of high school? As calculated at the end of the 4th 6 weeks, we have 11 seniors who have earned the distinction of the Top 10 (two of our students are tied) in the senior class! Congratulations! This year, all seniors who have earned a cumulative 4.0 or above GPA will receive an honors cord to wear at the honors ceremony and during graduation. Top 11 senior students will receive a special medallion. The discipline, grit and dedication it takes to reach this milestone accomplishment during the roller coaster adolescent years…. truly a marvel! Way to go, Cougar scholars!
Over the past few weeks, as recent as yesterday too, I celebrated with our selfless seniors and Thunderbird award winners. There wasn’t enough tissue to go around, it was so emotional! Congratulations to our selfless senior award recipients, McKenzie Jones and Christopher Mings! Congratulations to our Thunderbird Award winner, Fabiola Contreras! The Thunderbird Award is received by 1-2 graduating seniors each year…seniors who have faced great adversity in life, yet have succeeded in spite of it all!
It’s still testing season with PARCC Summative End of Year Exam in process ending May 8th. We begin End of Course Exams April 27th through May 15th, followed by final exams for seniors May 6th and 7th and for underclassmen, May 20 and 21.
Summer School at Cibola is right around the corner. Term I (Semester 1) is June 11th through July 1st, and Term II (Semester 2) is July 6th through July 24th. Summer School Graduation is July 28th at the ABQ Convention Center, Kiva Auditorium, 7-8 PM.

Well, go out and smell the roses, everybody. There is a lot to smile about at Cibola.
