Principal Corner, Autumn, 2015
I am well into my second year at Cibola High School, and I still stand in awe of our awesome Cougars and our splendid families. It was easy to show off our school at the APS School Fair. We shone in our brown and gold glory, proving once again, just how welcoming, academically purposeful, and how versatile we are in offering a vast selection of extracurricular activities for every taste and talent. Les Miserables cast ushered 53 students into the Convention Center to sing their hearts out and drew quite a crowd in the process. We have bragging rights because we earn and sustain our solid reputation each and every day we walk through these doors to make inspiring music together whether literally or through athletics, academics, or in just helping to mold young lives into adult readiness.
Yes, and PARCC scores have been released, and we haven’t missed a beat. The scores don’t define us; they inform us, and we strategically work together to keep the improvement curve spiraling upward toward acknowledgement of growth while celebrating our successes too. Check out our school’s progress on the PED website. We’ve excelled to rival our academic rivals. We take a moment to bask in that feat, and then dig deep to continue to strive for additional success. We are bringing our students into their future ready and willing.
Your student must pass State reading, math, and science tests in order to graduate. Seniors took the SBA Reading and Math test in the 10th grade and the SBA Science and PARCC Reading and Math tests in the 11th grade. This year’s graduating class must pass either the SBA or the PARCC in order to meet the Reading and Math testing requirements.
We do have a list of alternative assessment to which we can default if for some reason your student does not pass these required exams. In order to use an Alternative Assessment, a student must exhaust all testing possibilities. We cannot default to the alternative assessment if a student did not exhaust all testing opportunities. This means your student should not miss retakes for any reason. Please refer to the Cibola Testing website for more information.
Thank you in advance for pushing your students to do their best and to not be satisfied with anything less. Go Cougars!
